About

We’re a couple in Portland, Oregon that recently purchased a 1952 not quite bungalow, not quite ranch home. Our neighborhood is called Lents and it’s been targeted as an urban renewal area by the City of Portland Development Commission.
Our house is in good shape, structurally, and we’re not inclined to renovate. But, we do what is necessary. We enjoy the vintage character this home has managed to retain in the last 54 years despite having multiple owners and existing in a neighborhood where many of the houses are given a cheap Home Depot face lift and “flipped” for a small profit.
We have recently become involved with our neighborhood association. We’re really looking forward to observing and participating in the redevelopment of this neighborhood. While we’re not big fans of gentrification, we can see the potential of the Lents neighborhood, and are hoping that the final outcome is that desirable amenities and diversity are brought to the current residents of what is an historically low-income enclave without forcing the current residents to flee to other areas.
Beyond the big picture, we’ll mostly be documenting our little rehab projects and garden toolings. We love this house, and we’ve got a feeling that it loves us back.
