Fall out

Fall is coming slowly to an end. We had a lovely stretch of Indian summer, followed by wind. Now, we’re settling in to the days of mist and drizzle.

So far, I’ve planted some black tulip bulb and some alium. I’m hoping for at least a few cut flowers in the first year. Other than that, we’ve just been doing basic clean-up in the yard and dreaming about the day when we can start laying some flagstone and build a deck. We probably should have sheet mulched this fall to kill the rest of the grass, but my meeting schedule has left me a bit protective of my weekend slacking hours.

Inside, we’re finishing up the painting projects before it gets too damp to paint. That will leave us with just the kitchen to repaint next summer which will be a long project since it will also involve some demolition, adding wainscoting and painting the cabinetry.

Our big winter project is converting the garage into studio space. So far, it has just involved reorganizing a storage closet and sorting through the various debris that has accumulated.

I scored a gallon of pink paint for $8 at the hardware store today. If my studio space is going to be in a garage, there has to be pink involved. I’m thinking of having a massive pink pegboard wall unit. We also discovered a German [really pan-eastern-European] delicatessen across the street from the [Parkrose] True Value hardware store that has the tastiest Hungarian sausage I’ve ever had.
